The result of an MRI that took place in NY revealed he has a Grade 2 lat strain, a new and separate injury from the rotator cuff tendonitis he'd been attempting to rehabilitate since being shut down in early March. He'll be shut down (no throwing) for six weeks.

"He's been saying, "Yeah, I feel OK, ' but why isn't he getting to that point where, 'Yeah, let's get on the mound"?" He was sent for an MRI that showed the lat strain, which wasn't present when he had the MRI that revealed the rotator cuff inflammation. However, the 25-year-old Severino is now set to miss at least the first two months of the season. And until proven otherwise, the Yankees are hoping Domingo German, who already has two wins in his first two starts, will be a big part of that answer.

As has been well documented by now, the Yankees have a staggering 11 players on the injured list, though it's arguable that Severino is the most vital of the bunch. Gonzalez has pitched well early in the triple-A season and could help the Yankees fill Severino's spot in the rotation. He is the head team physician for the Yankees and New York City Football Club. The right-hander won't start throwing until late May.

Furthermore, the Yankees won't be rushing Severino back under any circumstances.
