President Trump on Tuesday vetoed a resolution that would have ended USA support for the Saudi-led military campaign in Yemen.
It was just the second veto of Trump's presidency and Congress lacks the votes to override him.
"This resolution is an unnecessary, unsafe attempt to weaken my constitutional authorities, endangering the lives of American citizens and fearless service members, both today and in the future", Trump said in the veto message.
The measure had passed the House on a 247-to-175 vote this month and was approved by the Senate last month with the support of seven Republicans. The bill would have invoked the War Powers Resolution to pull US assistance to the Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting against Houthi rebels and their allies in Yemen.
Sen. Sanders has led the charge on the Yemen resolution and might make this a larger fixture of his 2020 presidential campaign, now that the president vetoed the resolution.
