Trump defers push for health plan after GOP resists idea

Trump Makes New Announcement On Republican Health Care Plan Donald Trump Postpones 'Really Great' Healthcare Plan Until After 2020 Election

In a series of tweets on Monday night, Trump said Republicans are developing "a really great HealthCare Plan with far lower premiums (cost) & deductibles than Obamacare".

Trump has ramped up his assault on ObamaCare after his administration came out in support of a decision by a Texas judge last December that the entire law should be tossed.

Republicans have been speaking publicly and privately to Trump since he surprised them last week with an unexpected pledge that the GOP will be "the party of health care".

Lawmakers will vote on the plan after the 2020 elections, contingent upon Trump winning re-election, Republicans maintaining control of the Senate and regaining control of the House.

Trump and his fellow Republicans had vowed in the 2016 presidential election to "repeal and replace" Obamacare but failed to do so during their first two years in power, despite control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. If it's upheld - as it has been in previous Supreme Court challenges - he can rail against a "liberal" court system.

According to AP VoteCast, a survey of more than 115,000 midterm voters nationwide, almost 4 in 10 Democratic voters identified health care as the most important among a list of key issues.

They encouraged him to focus instead on bipartisan health care changes they could accomplish with Democrats - including lowering prescription drug prices - rather than an overhaul of the "Obamacare" law that's proved futile.

Trump is suggesting he will defer until after 2020 his push for a Republican health care plan to replace the Affordable Care Act. Republican congressional leaders quickly sought to distance themselves from Trump's latest drive, mindful that passing such a proposal would be virtually impossible in a divided Congress. It will be truly great HealthCare that will work for America.

"When the president has instructed his Department of Justice to eliminate the Affordable Care Act, them's fighting words", U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an interview with Politico on Tuesday.

White House officials were quick to tell CNN that Short had gotten ahead of White House deliberations.

Trump said Thursday he's asked Republican senators to work on a replacement to the Affordable Care Act, but no such group appears to exist.

"They [the Democrats] want "Medicare-for-All, government takeover of health care and the president wants to see health care returned to the power of the patient", said Sanders, providing no specifics to any potential GOP plan in the works".

Obamacare is the defining legislative achievement of the Obama presidency.

White House spokesman Hogan Gidley defended Trump's tweet, saying it was impossible to vote now on any Republican plan in the Democratically-controlled House.
