Aranda's bail was kept at $2 million and a hearing was set for May 14.

"The family appreciates the outpouring of support from across the country, reassuring them of the goodness in humanity, the overall goodness of humanity and God's will", said Stephen Tillitt, attorney for the boy's family.

Originally, Aranda planned to kill an adult but his plans were foiled.

After being read his Miranda rights, Arnada confessed that it was he who threw the boy off the balcony.

"During my most recent visit with Landen, holding his hand revealed a calm and warm aura in his room, one that likely is contributed from all of the enormous outpouring of prayer and support from everyone across the globe", Noah Hanneman wrote Monday night on a GoFundMe page collecting donations to help with the family's expenses.

After arriving on the scene, officers found the child on the first floor with "obvious and severe injuries".

He was treated in a Minneapolis hospital suffering from head trauma and multiple broken bones.

That's when the suspect "picked up the victim and threw him" roughly 39 feet off of the balcony to the first floor before he took off running. The mother told cops she'd never seen Aranda and before she could move away, he grabbed the child.

Aranda is charged with attempted homicide. And, the complaint alleges he acknowledged throwing the child from the balcony and fleeing.

Reportedly, Aranda said he had been coming to the mall for years and tried to speak to women without success and at one point was banned from the mall. The Star-Tribune reported that Aranda was previously convicted of first-degree property damage and was also arrested on charges of assault and theft in IL.

According to the complaint, surveillance footage from the mall allegedly shows Aranda walking on the third floor and looking over the balcony several times before approaching the child and his mother.

Aranda then ran off and was caught by police outside of the mall.

Aranda, who has roots in the Chicago area, has a felony conviction for first-degree property damage as well as a long string of misdemeanor arrests and convictions.

The attorney, Paul Sellers, also urged the community to focus on mental health options for those who need it instead of waiting for bad things to happen and demanding retribution.

He returned Friday and picked the boy instead, U.S. media reported.
