Armed Police opened fire on auto speeding towards the Ukrainian ambassador's vehicle.

When the driver was blocked by cops, he slammed into the Ambassador's vehicle again - forcing police to open fire.

It is not known if the man in the auto was wounded, but he was eventually removed from the vehicle and detained by police.

Describing the events of Saturday morning, the Ukrainian embassy said that after seeing the ambassador's auto being targeted, the police were called and officers "blocked up" the attacker's vehicle.

"In response, the police were forced to open fire on the perpetrator's vehicle".

"No one of the Embassy staff were injured".

British police fired shots Saturday at a auto outside the Ukrainian Embassy in London after it rammed other cars parked in front of the embassy.

When officers arrived on the scene, a vehicle was "driven at them", the Met added.

A huge police cordon is in place in Holland Park with one man, aged in his 40s, arrested over the drama this morning.

"He has been taken to a central London hospital as a precaution".

Chief Superintendent Andy Walker said, under standard procedure, the use of a police firearm in Britain is now being formally investigated.

Some reports suggested there were shots from the auto that hit the ambassador's vehicle, but the embassy said only the British police opened fire.

The black vehicle was heavily scuffed on its right-hand side.

TV footage later showed a silver vehicle slewed across the cordoned-off road with its driver's door open and window shattered.

Witnesses say they heard approximately 10 shots fired.
