The redesign does not implement any major changes in the user interface (UI) or navigation on Snapchat, but the new version is expected to be much faster than the old version with lesser bugs, The Verge reported on Monday.

But once the spyware has been installed, it can mine a user's contacts, audio recordings, photos, videos, and device information (including real-time location data).

However, the iOS versions are not as sophisticated as Android malware. "So far, this software (along with the Android version) has been made available through phishing sites that imitated Italian and Turkmenistani mobile carriers." reads the analysis published by Lookout.

While Exodus for Android has likely infected "several hundred if not a thousand or more" devices, it's not clear how many Apple users were affected with the iOS variant of the malware.

An iOS version of Exodus is now putting iPhone users in serious danger as it targets victims from the unsuspecting Apple customers.

How did Exodus enter within the iOS boundary?

"The iOS versions were available outside the app store, through phishing sites, and abused the Apple Developer Enterprise program", the researchers said in a blog post. However, the discovery of the spyware on both mobile platforms serves as a reminder to avoid phishing links and only download apps directly from Google Play or Apple's official App Store.

Also, Assistenza is not the only app that tries to take advantage of Apple's enterprise certification. While it is hard to bypass Apple's App Store, it seems the developer abused their Apple-issued Developer Enterprise program certificates to infect unsuspecting victims.

As soon as Apple got to know about the app's unauthorized activity, they revoked the app's certificate, which caused the app to stop functioning.

The Apple-signed enterprise certificates are meant to be used under the tech giant's rules. We are informed that the developer behind Assistenza app is Connexxa, a spyware maker.
