He asserted, without evidence, that Omar was "out of control, except for her control of Nancy!" She said Muslims in America have lived as second-class citizens for far too long resulting in the founding of CAIR "because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to civil liberties". "It has to stop".
The relentless attacks from the media, particularly from the stable of Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, was followed by President Donald Trump tweeting what can only be described as an incendiary video, in which footage of the 9/11 attacks on New York City is interwoven with Omar's words; the attacks on the Congresswoman moved from the obtuse and the absurd to the downright unsafe.
The video tweeted by Trump spliced news footage of 9/11 with a clip from a speech Omar gave last month in which she said "some people did something" in reference to the attacks.
On April 5, a western NY man who told Federal Bureau of Investigation agents that he "loves the President, and that he hates radical Muslims in our government", was arrested for threatening to murder Omar in a phone call to her office.
On Sunday, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Mr Trump wishes "no ill will and certainly not violence" towards the first-term lawmaker.
The comments come a day after the MinnesotaDemocrat said she's faced increased death threats since Trump spread a video that purports to show her being dismissive of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
"Violent crimes and other acts of hate by right-wing extremists and white nationalists are on the rise in this country and around the world", she said. For far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it. CAIR was founded after 9/11* because they recognized that some people did something and that all of us were starting to lose access to our civil liberties.
"For far too long, we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it", she said.
"We are all Americans". This is endangering lives.
Earlier, Pelosi issued a statement while travelling in London saying she had spoken with congressional authorities "to ensure that Capitol Police are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman Omar, her family and her staff".
Given that Omar, a proud-scarf-wearing-Black-Muslim-refugee-from-Somalia, says what no one in the establishment ever wants to hear, the right wing media have found it imperative to skew and distort her words at any given opportunity.
'The President's words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger, ' Pelosi said.
Mr Trump tweeted the video on Friday, showing the snippet, to a backdrop of menacing music, with images of the destruction wrought by the hijacked planes slamming into the Twin Towers which once dominated New York's skyline. Trump captioned his tweet with: "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!"
Critics accuse Ms Omar of being flippant in describing the perpetrators of the attacks that killed almost 3,000 people. She later sought to defend herself by tweeting a quote from President George W Bush, in which the Republican president referred to the attackers as "people" just days after 9/11. According to a senior Democratic aide, Pelosi called for the review based on dozens of threats made on Omar's life even before Trump posted the video on Friday. It remained lower in the feed after Pelosi requested that the video be pulled. Omar also said Muslims had "lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and, frankly, I'm exhausted of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be exhausted of it". Over the weekend, Yemen American bodegas and stores across New York City refused to sell the paper in their stores.
Some of the Omar supporters who gathered outside Nuss Truck and Equipment in Burnsville, about 15 miles (24 km) south of Minneapolis, called on Democratic leaders in Washington to take a stand for Omar.
The president and members of the Republican party have accused Omar of minimizing the 9/11 attacks, while Democrats have condemned Trump for allegedly inciting racism and violence. "I'll put a bullet in her [obscenity] skull".
Omar has received numerous death threats since taking office in January.
