The average cost of a gallon of gasoline was $3.884 in Los Angeles on Monday, surpassing the price at the pump in even Hawaii.

So what is the best - and worst - day of the week to fill-up if you're trying to save a few bucks?

"The most expensive day to fill-up barely remains Friday when looking at averages, while 16 states saw Saturday have the highest average price", said DeHaan. That's just a couple takeaways from a recent study by GasBuddy, a gas price watch dog.

"California will soon be home to something not seen in almost five years: a statewide average of over $4 per gallon, with some of the largest cities there swelling to averages as high as $4.15 per gallon before any relief arrives".

GasBuddy released a new study that found the best and worst days of the week to buy gas to maximize savings and avoid the lines during the busy summer travel season.

The national average for a gallon regular unleaded gas is $2.75.

Experts predict prices won't be coming down anytime soon.

GasBuddy, a web site that tracks gas prices nationally, said the increase has to do with ongoing refinery issues limiting supply.

Analysts blame the price hikes on unplanned refinery maintenance at several locations.

Prices have already increased dramatically in the Puget Sound region.

Prices are up by about 28 cents in both the entire USA and MI on average during the past month.

"Some stations that are charging $3.79 today certainly could get much closer to ($4 per gallon prices), at least across Seattle metro ... you may start to see a couple stations", he said.
