The New Zealand Catholic Church has spoken out against controversial rugby star Israel Folau saying he has done a disservice to the church following his comments against homosexuals.

"My intention was to express my belief in the word of God", Vunipola said. (Galatians KJV 5:19-21).

He escaped sanctions that time, but after his latest post, Rugby Australia took an action.

"The content within the post is unacceptable", the organization said.

"But rugby is an inclusive sport, I think stats back up that when it comes to gender, race, religion, sexuality it is the most inclusive game around with great values and it's rare to come across bigotry, unlike in football where it seems to be every week".

However, instead of retracting his comments in hopes he might regain his place on the team, Folau has said he stands by "what the Bible says".

'Following the events of previous year, Israel was warned formally and repeatedly about the expectations of him as player for the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs with regards to social media use and he has failed to meet those obligations.

Rugby Australia had said it would terminate the contract of Folau, the country's best-known and best-paid player, if he could not offer a good reason for a social media post that said gay people would go to "hell" if they did not "repent".

In the past, Folau has gotten into hot water because of his support for traditional marriage. Christianity is all about Jesus Christ. My intention was to express my belief in the word of God.

In his first interview since Rugby Australia announced its intention to terminate his Wallabies and Super Rugby contracts, Folau told the Sydney Morning Herald on Sunday he will walk away from rugby and his multi-million dollar income if God wills it. "Whatever His will is, whether that's to continue playing or not, I'm more than happy to do what He wants me to do. But my faith in Jesus Christ is what comes first", he told the publication.

Folau said the furor that emerged about his social media posts has not made him budge.

"I think as it stands right now... you wouldn't be able", Cheika said.

"I share it with love", he said.

Vunipola added: "I can see that my recent post has hurt people".

"I have love towards everyone that might be saying negative things".

Asked if Folau was being punished for his religious beliefs, Castle said "this is not a religious discussion, this is a discussion around the employee-employer relationship".

8 Billy Vunipola was formally warned about his future conduct by his club side Saracens after defending an anti-gay post published on Instagram by Australia rugby star Israel Folau.

Ablett and Kennedy were two of almost 39,000 people who liked Folau's controversial homophobic post which said gay people are going to hell unless they repent. The player has been formally warned about his future conduct.

"I'm disappointed in the fact that we're here again, second year running, that we're fronting up around an issue that on a large extent we'd settled and the impact that it has on the team", he said. "It will be handled internally".
