"However, many of these people had other serious illnesses that also increased their risk of death", the CDC said. However, tests showed that the invasive fungus was everywhere inside the room, from the bed to the doors and walls to everything else inside, according to Gulf News.

Candida Auris, or C. auris, is a multidrug-resistant fungus that has been spreading in hospitals and nursing homes.

A resistant superbug fungus that can kill people within 90 days is creeping into countries across the globe, with more than 587 cases confirmed in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

While most Candida auris infections are treatable with antifungal medications, the CDC says it's concerned that some have proven to be resistant to all three main classes of antifungal medications.

According to the Times, people with compromised or weakened immune systems - including elderly people, people who are already sick, and newborns - are the most vulnerable.

India, Pakistan, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, US, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Kenya and list goes on with at least 587 cases reported from US alone, 309 cases in NY, 104 in New Jersey and 144 in IL, according to the CDC.

The CDC, which recently added C. auris to a list of germs deemed an "urgent threat", has a wealth of up-to-date tracking data on its website about where the fungus has been reported and how it's spreading.

"Most C. auris cases in the United States have been detected in the New York City area, New Jersey, and the Chicago area", the CDC said in a statement.

The Brooklyn patient died 90 days after being admitted to hospital, but the Candida Auris did not disappear.

The second case involved a 24-year-old Bangladeshi man who came to Singapore for medical treatment in 2016. There are also 104 recorded cases in New Jersey.

According to the New York Times, in 2015, there was an outbreak at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, which resulted in 72 total cases of C. auris. Finally, it has caused outbreaks in healthcare settings.

Another outbreak occurred at a hospital in Spain in 2018.

- Federal health authorities are warning about an emerging fungu that presents a serious global health threat and is showing up in NY and New Jersey.

Because symptoms can vary greatly, a laboratory test is needed to determine whether a patient has a C. auris infection.
