Scummo approves Adani The Federal Govt Just Okayed Adani's Plans For The Largest Coal Mine In Oz

One of the last major hurdles for the controversial Adani coal mine has been lifted, with the Federal Environment Minister approving the groundwater management plans.

"The Australian government is not providing any financial support to the mine or to its rail project".

She says CSIRO and Geoscience Australia believe the Indian company's revised plans for the way it manages groundwater resources meet scientific requirements.

"The independent evaluation and endorsement by CSIRO and Geoscience Australia verify that the measures outlined in the plans will ensure groundwater at the mine, and the ecosystems that depend on it, are protected", said Dow in a statement.

The decision, taken by Environment Minister Melissa Price, comes after intense pressure from Queensland Liberal National Party members, including a threat by senator James McGrath to publicly call for Price's resignation if she failed to treat the Adani project fairly.

The other is the Black-throated Finch Management Plan.

Ms Enoch said based on the reports from the CSIRO and GeoScience Australia, there were still uncertainties.

The Morrison government has ticked off on the groundwater management plan for the proposed Adani coal mine, an important but not a final step for the central Queensland project receiving the go-ahead. So far only 16 of 25 environmental plans have been finalised or approved by the Commonwealth and Queensland with nine more to be finalised.

Ms Enoch says the project is treated no differently to others, and that politics will play no part in the department's decision. "We are not interested in sovereign risk".

A Queensland government official told Reuters in February that Adani may have to wait up to two years for some environmental approvals.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has slapped down internal Coalition critics who are demanding swift approval for the Adani coalmine, insisting the government will follow "expert scientific advice" on an imminent environmental decision.

REEKING of political interference - that is how the State Government environment minister has described the campaign from federal politicians Barnaby Joyce and Matt Canavan to get the Adani project approved.

Labor leader Bill Shorten said in government he would be guided by the "best science and the law of the land" on the Adani approvals, but no taxpayer money would go to the project.
