You Can Get Android Q Now if You Have a Google Pixel

Google Releases Android Q Beta for Developers, Early Adopters Google Announces Android Q Beta: Faster Apps, Privacy Boosts, and More
Katie Ramirez | 15 March, 2019, 23:08

This is something most devices have for ages, and with the Q update this feature will be natively supported.

If you thought the Pixel 3 and 3 XL were prematurely leaked and detailed past year, you may want to keep in mind the first Pixel 3 Lite hands-on photos surfaced online back in November and we still have no idea exactly when Google might be planning to release this mid-ranger. Google I/O is in May so there will be some more details about Android Q there. The Pixel 4 series isn't expected to be released for another seven months, and we have yet to see any solid rumors about what Google might have in store for Android fans this year.

Google expects to offer six Android Q beta releases followed by a final release in Q3 2019.

Credit: GoogleGoogle wants to make sending files a quicker process, so it's added Sharing Shortcuts as a feature. Android Q has a new feature that lets you create a QR code for your Wi-Fi network, or scan a QR code to join a Wi-Fi network, directly in the device's Wi-Fi settings.

If you own a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel and Pixel 3 XL you can access this update now.

Spotted on the Google Pixel subreddit, one user explains that Beta users can go to Settings - System - Advanced - Developer Options - Feature Flags and then to enable “settings_screenrecord_long_press”. And when connected to an external monitor, you will be able to use the new desktop mode with your Android phone.

Android 10 will feature a new Settings Panel API which improves on the Slices feature introduced in Android 9.

A number of camera enhancements will be included in Android Q, including the ability to request a Dynamic Depth image when taking a picture with your smartphone's camera. Google says this approach "can be useful when you need more control over testing, such as for automated testing or regression testing".

It's become so controversial that Facebook even announced that it was unilaterally adding location-tracking control to its Android app to head off public concern about its data-gathering behaviour.

One of the coolest features launched with the Google Pixel 3 is Call Screen, which allows you to have Google Assistant answer your spam calls. Bugs in the beta can cause you to have to reset the device. Considering HMD's close relationship with Google, it's very likely that Nokia smartphones will be a part of the beta program. Don't do this out of casual interest, especially since future betas figure to be more stable.

Are you going to load the Android Q beta on a Pixel phone?
