Wireless Headphones Like AirPods Could Pose Cancer Risk

Here’s what 250 scientists says about your wireless AirPods 250 scientists warn trendy wireless earphones may pose higher risks to cancer

DailyMail reports that Apple's wireless Airpods may pose cancer risks to wearers according to a United Nations and World Health Organization petition.

The bubble may be bursting for AirPods users, however, as a number of scientists have come out to say the device is harmful and may have the potential of causing cancer.

And, in some cases, the levels of radiation found to be carcinogenic were significantly lower than the maximum allowed by federal and worldwide guidelines. The year before, they sold 16 million pairs. With a new design purportedly on the way, the tech company is set to profit even more on sound, but these devices may be pumping more than beats into the wearer's head.

Their central argument is couched within the second part of that quote - that national and global standards for what is considered safe levels of exposure to EMF should be lowered.

While high levels of EMF waves can cause burns and impact cell-growth in humans, it isn't clear what can result with prolonged exposure to the low amount of EMF waves produced by devices like the AirPods. But: the animals were exposed to in experiments of high-frequency radiation, were in above-average mass of genetic, neurological, and reproductive damage.

This means that radiowaves are less risky than higher energy radiation like X-rays or UV, but more extremely low-frequency radiation.

NIH has published further evidence of cellular transmission causing certain kinds of cancer.

Here’s what 250 scientists says about your wireless AirPods

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has declared electromagenetic field radiation a possible carcinogen.

So, will your fancy new AirPods increase your risk for cancer?

"Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF affects living organisms at levels well below most global and national guidelines", the scientists collectively wrote in their appeal.

"These [devices] are not limited to and include baby monitors, smart meters, broadcast antennas, Wi-Fi, and cordless and cellular phones and their base stations, besides infrastructures and electric devices that are used to deliver electricity and generate extremely-low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic field (EMF)", wrote the scientists in the petition.

"The various agencies setting safety standards have failed to impose sufficient guidelines to protect the general public, particularly children who are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF", the petition continued.

'By not taking action, the WHO is failing to fulfill its role as the preeminent global public health agency'.
