Brazil school shooting: Deadly attack in São Paulo Two student shooters kill six people at Brazil school before taking their own lives

"It's a very sad scene - the saddest thing I've seen in my entire life", said Sao Paulo Governor João Doria.

Police are seen at the Raul Brasil School after a shooting in Suzano, Sao Paulo state, Brazil, March 13, 2019.

In addition to the five kids, one adult who worked at the Professor Raul Brasil school in Suzano, on the outskirts of São Paulo, was killed as well as a person standing outside the building. He says authorities don't believe the two were former students. The students who died were mostly 15 and 16 years old. At the time of the shooting, reportedly, only secondary students were at the school.

Ten people, including the gunmen, were killed in total, Sao Paulo police said.

School shootings are rare in Brazil, even though the country is one of the world's most violent, with more annual homicides than any other.

Another shooting that took place about 500 metres from the school happened before the killings, but it was not yet clear if the two incidents were linked.

While gun laws are extremely strict in Brazil, it is not hard to illegally purchase a weapon.

The two shooters committed suicide after the rampage at the school in Suzo, a community near Sao Paulo, the police said.

However, current Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro signed a temporary decree in January that made it easier for citizens to buy guns in an effort to overturn the strict regulations of the past.
