Saudi Human Rights official: Brought perpetrators of Khashoggi murder to justice ‘Unfortunate accident’: Saudis assure UN there’s no need for probe into Khashoggi killing

Despite claims Qahtani was sacked by the Saudi leadership in the aftermath of Khashoggi's murder, the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal have reported that Qahtani continues to advise the crown prince.

"Justice in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia operates pursuant to global law and it does so in all transparency", Aiban told the Geneva forum during a review of Saudi Arabia's rights record.

He said the kingdom would not accept what he termed as foreign interference in its domestic affairs and judicial system.

The Committee to Protect Journalists today joined 10 human rights and press freedom groups in sending a letter to House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) leadership urging congressional action in the pursuit of justice for murdered Washington Post columnist and USA resident Jamal Khashoggi.

Riyadh "categorically rejects any talk about the internationalization of the Khashoggi case", he said.

Saudi Human Rights official: Brought perpetrators of Khashoggi murder to justice

Al-Aiban described the murder as an "unfortunate accident".

"None of their human rights have been violated and they have been subjected to no form of torture or cruel" treatment, Aiban clarified.

On the United Nations recommendations on human rights, Al-Aiban said Riyadh was in the process of studying them but that some of them contradicted Saudi regulations.

Aiban said that there had so far been three hearings, and that the accused and their lawyers had been present.

He also said "representatives of worldwide organisations as well as NGOs and other stakeholders. were able to monitor and see how the court cases were unfolding", but did not specify which organisations had been permitted into the proceedings.

Saudi Arabia has accepted as many as 453 human rights recommendations, either full or in part, during the past 10 years. "Such demands made upon us are tantamount to the worldwide community doubting the integrity of our judicial apparatus and doubting the independence of our judiciary", he said.
