The Feb. 22 imagery seems to show new North Korean missile activity at an assembly operation, but Bolton said the U.S."relies on its own" satellite surveillance and draws its conclusions from those images.

Experts are divided over Pyongyang's plans, but whatever its intentions, a launch would shatter the fragile US-North Korea relationship and revive the angry language that had stoked fears of a military conflict at the start of the Trump presidency.

Satellite analysis now indicates increased activity at two key sites - the Samundong missile research facility and the Sohae rocket launch centre.

"China and Russian Federation won't be able to say that North Korea has been abiding by the resolutions and sanctions should be eased", Mr Oh said.

U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held their second summit last month on U.S. demands that North Korea dismantle its nuclear program in exchange for security guarantees and the lifting of sanctions.

He added, "We see exactly what they're doing now". "We look every day at the intelligence".

Upon returning to the U.S., Pompeo said that Kim assured him North Korea would allow worldwide personnel to inspect its nuclear sites.

"That would have put us in a position - a very hard position - of essentially subsidizing what would potentially be ongoing development of weapons of mass destruction in North Korea".

"In all cases, the expectation is a complete denuclearization of North Korea as a condition for all the other steps being taken", the official said.

In the weeks since the summit, the Trump administration's position appeared to have hardened, with US special representative on North Korea Stephen Biegun telling the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's nuclear conference Monday that the U.S.is "not going to do denuclearization incrementally".

He continued, "Right now you have no testing, you have no nothing".

"We see it unblinkingly, and we don't have any illusions about what those are", he warned, adding his boss would be "pretty disappointed" if a nuclear-armed state conducted a new missile test. -North Korea summit at the Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel in Hanoi, Feb. 28, 2019.

He did admit, however, that Trump would be "pretty disappointed" if Kim Jong-un made a decision to test launch another missile.

Last August, North Korea turned over 55 boxes of war remains; so far the USA has identified three soldiers from those remains and is expecting to announce several more soon.
