Lottery victor grateful after Good Samaritan returns £200 million winning ticket

Mike Weirsky-wife don't want him back 273 Million Dollar Mega Millions Winner Michael Weirsky Forgot Winning Ticket at New Jersey Convenience Store

Decked out in Yankees gear, Weirsky said he's going to "sit back and enjoy" the money.

"It's going to change everything because I was unemployed", he said.

But Weirsky, who said he spends $20 a week on quick-pick lottery tickets, said he did not realize he had the winning ticket until two days later, as a snowstorm swirled outside. Following the divorce, she paid him spousal support.

A New Jersey man who nearly forgot his $273 million jackpot-winning Mega Millions lottery ticket at the store where he bought it says he's going to reward whoever returned it.

She also doesn't suspect her husband will approach her to square up, but she does hope he'll "do the right thing".

"I'm looking for the guy that handed them in", Weirsky told the Mail.

"I couldn't believe I was the victor of more than $2 after playing after all these years", he said.

"After that, I am basically locked into what my lawyer and other people that I got working for me tell me I can do", he said. Ironically, he says that he finally got a call for his first job interview just days after he won the jackpot - but now, he plans on using the money to buy his mother a new vehicle and take his family on a vacation before consulting with lawyers on what to do next. "I figured when I woke up Friday morning, like, well, just another thing I lost".

And while her former husband expects to collect $162.5 million after taxes, she won't be going after him for what, some would argue, she deserves.

When it comes to lottery tickets, possession is nine-tenths of the law, Carey said.

Lottery officials said Thursday that if the person who found the tickets had held onto them and signed them, they could have claimed the jackpot. A Good Samaritan found the tickets and gave them to store workers; Weirsky returned to the store the next day and reclaimed them. "If you think about it, it's very hard to say who owns a lottery ticket, short of someone coming in here and saying, 'I purchased this ticket, it's mine, ' " he said. "I'm going to give him something, but I'm going to keep that private".
