James Corden pranks David Beckham good with a fake statue reveal

Beckham himself had not seen the finalized version of the genuine statue, which now stands outside of the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, so Corden had the ideal opportunity to trick the unwitting athlete.

The LA Galaxy legend was at his former home stadium for a private unveiling of his effigy, unaware the "Late Late Show" host had switched the artwork out for a far, far less complimentary one.

David Beckham wouldn't have been the first soccer player to get a weird-looking commemorative statue, and James Corden used that to his advantage.

Unaware that he was being pranked, Beckham did remarkably well to keep his cool as the artist took him through the finer details of the purposefully very bad mock statue, although he did let his feelings slip on more than one occasion.

"It's slightly different than it was when I saw it in Chicago", Beckham said of the fake statue, appearing crestfallen. The only thing that's good is the hair. Beckham, who hadn't seen the finished product yet, was at the Galaxy's stadium to get a sneak peak in a private showing. My parents are coming over from London, my wife (Victoria Beckham) is coming over. I really don't see how this can go out. "I mean, look at my chin".

By the end, a forklift accidentally knocked the fake statue over, breaking it and having Beckham tell the driver he did him a favor.

In a dummy ceremony, which Beckham attended believing he was being given a preview before the statue was unveiled to the public, the 43-year-old just about kept his cool when the unflattering likeness was unveiled.
