Police in Gujarat have not banned Fortnite, a popular rival to PUBG developed by USA -based Epic Games.

PUBG Mobile has issued a statement on the recent arrests in Rajkot, Gujarat of players, after the game was banned in the city, saying the company is trying to understand the legal basis of the same.

"Police checked their mobile to see if the PUBG game was running and also checked the history in their handset".

The arrest took place on Tuesday and included a group of six college students who were part of a graduate program.

The heavy-handed approach against PUBG Mobile has raised several questions on the freedom to practice one's own will in the country. The students were released on bail on the same day.

"People have been booked but there is nothing like an arrest in it", Mr. Agrawal further told the media. While they were released on bail, the police had registered an offence against them, reported TOI. Rajkot police issued a ban on the game through March 30 due to their belief that PUBG Mobile causes violence and poor academic performance in youth. Aravalli district administration has also issued a ban on both PUBG and the controversial MOMO Challenge. In consonance with our endeavor to continue promoting responsible gaming experience, we are working on the introduction of a healthy gameplay system in India to promote balanced, responsible gaming, including limiting play time for under-aged players.

Just hours ago, Ahmedabad Police issued an advisory for the people to get rid of PUBG Mobile.

Developer Bluehole spoke to Eurogamer and said it is aware of the ban and actively seeking ways to address the concerns of parents and law enforcement who believe the game is a detriment to society with new in-game features.

That's all well and good, but perhaps we should acknowledge the larger crime committed by the police and state, in failing to note that the Momo challenge is bogus, and that year after year, studies have no shown there's no evidence to prove a link between violent games and aggressive behavior.
