"The Special Counsel is assisting us with this process", Barr wrote to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham and House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler.

While this is allowed under special counsel regulations, and is in fact typical DOJ policy in most cases to protect the reputation of people who are not being charged with crimes, this is not an ordinary case - and the DOJ has historically been far more transparent about cases involving national political controversy. Some Democrats, including Nadler and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, have falsely implied throughout the week the Attorney General is engaged in a coverup.

He said the report - which covers Moscow's campaign to sabotage the 2016 presidential race, whether any Trump associates conspired and whether the president obstructed the inquiry - was almost 400 pages, plus supplements.

"Although the President would have the right to assert privilege over certain parts of the report, he has stated publicly that he intends to defer to me and, accordingly, there are no plans to submit the report to the White House for a privilege review", Barr said.

Attorney General Bill Barr, in a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate judiciary committees, said he was now redacting sensitive material from the eagerly awaited report, which Trump has hailed as completely clearing him of allegations of collusion with Russian Federation and obstruction of justice.

For some in the White House, Sunday seemed like the first day of the rest of Donald Trump's presidency. However, Mueller did not reach a conclusion about whether Trump obstructed justice, saying the report "does not exonerate" Trump. We are preparing the report for release, making the redactions that are required.

Exuberant officials and a buoyant President spent the week cheering the initial results of Mueller's investigation, as laid out in a letter from Attorney General William Barr.

"Finally, in the interests of keeping the public informed as to these matters, I intend to make this letter public after delivering it to you", he said. Congressional Democrats blasted Barr's short, four-page summary of Mueller's findings and have called for full transparency, urging the release of the full report to Congress and the public by April 2. Trump cast the entire Mueller investigation and Democratic support as efforts to delegitimize his election in 2016 and seize power illegally.

In his letter, Barr said he would be prepared to testify before the Senate and House judiciary committees on May 1 and May 2 respectively.
