House endorses making Mueller report public, in unanimous 420-0 vote

House endorses making Mueller report public in unanimous 420-0 vote House poised to pass measure calling for DOJ to publicly release Mueller's report

If you're a Republican, wouldn't you rather leave it in Bill Barr's discretion as to whether to release Mueller's findings considering that (a) Barr is Trump's handpicked AG, (b) an outspoken skeptic of certain aspects of Mueller's investigation, and (c) unlike congressional Republicans, he'll actually know the contents of the report when he makes his decision?

Several other prosecutors detailed to Mueller's team have also left in recent months, suggesting the investigation is winding down and that Mueller may soon turn in a report to Attorney General William Barr. Yet it seems even Republicans are fed up with the secrecy, as the House voted unanimously Thursday on a resolution demanding the report be made public.

The House on Thursday passed a non-binding resolution that declared the final results of Robert Mueller's investigation should be made public.

The asterisk in the headline, by the way, is due to the fact that four Republicans - libertarians Justin Amash and Thomas Massie, Paul Gosar, and Trump buddy Matt Gaetz - voted "present".

The vote was overwhelmingly bipartisan, with 420 members voting in favor of the resolution and zero voting against it. Bringing a vote on the resolution also served as a way for Democrats to put Republicans on record on the issue.

Schumer added that he was "deeply disappointed" in Graham, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"This resolution is critical because of the many questions and criticisms of the investigation raised by the president and his administration", said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler.

News outlets have reported that Mueller & Co. were in the process of writing a final report on the investigation, which looked into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation as well as possible obstruction of justice on the part of President Trump.

At the same time, an overwhelming majority of Americans believe there should be a public report on what Mueller finds. That report must explain why the special counsel chose to either pursue or decline prosecutions.

That answer has not satisfied Democrats, however, who have continued to press for assurances that the report will be released publicly. Concerns over Weismann's credibility as an independent investigator plagued the Mueller deputy since joining the Russia Probe. He must then notify Congress, but has not indicated to what extent he intends to share the information with lawmakers or the public.

"If necessary, our committee will subpoena the report". Plus, getting the full unclassified report released might be the only way to prevent both sides from selectively leaking about its contents.
