An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed Sunday killing 157 people, shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa.

In the meantime, Caribbean Airlines is doing all that it reasonably can, to accommodate on its aircraft, those passengers of other air carriers who may be affected by the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX-8.

It could also look at Grant County International Airport in central Washington, where Boeing regularly tests aircraft.

Vietnamese airliner VietJet Aviation recently announced that it's holding off on future Boeing purchases until the Ethiopian Airlines investigation is concluded.

The delayed flight ET302 took off from Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at 08:38 local time (05:38 GMT) and was bound for Kenyan capital Nairobi.

So far, there are cancellations on Friday at the Region of Waterloo International Airport for the WestJet flight to and from Calgary, the company confirming that these are due to the groundings.

"He asked to return back to base, and clearance was given to him".

Visibility was said to be good but air traffic monitor Flightradar24 reported that the plane's "vertical speed was unstable after take-off".

French air crash investigators have revealed a severely damaged black box from the doomed Ethiopian Airlines crash.

Investigators have found the cockpit voice recorder and digital flight data recorder but it will be a while before the findings are made public.

The airline had to assign new planes to those flights after the grounding was ordered on those jets Wednesday.

Firm answers about what caused the crash could take months. Aviation experts say other technical issues or human error can not be discounted.

The FAA then said that the jets might stay ground for "months" while admitted that the series apparently has a software problem that poses a risk to flight safety.

Questions about the Lion Air crash have honed in on an automated stall prevention system, the MCAS, created to automatically point the plane's nose downwards if it is in danger of stalling.

In two anonymous reports on flights just after the Lion Air disaster, pilots disconnected the autopilot and corrected the plane's trajectory.

According to estimates from the IBA Group, the direct costs to airlines for suspending the MAX would be around $150,000 per day per leased aircraft grounded.

The system continues to repeat the process if the computer detects the plane is still tilted at a too-high angle.

Boeing is preparing fixes to anti-stall software that baffled pilots of the downed Lion Air jet by pitching the plane's nose down dozens of times before it crashed in the Java Sea off the coast of Indonesia in October. "We continue to build 737 MAX airplanes, while assessing how the situation, including potential capacity constraints, will impact our production system".

Three U.S. airlines - United, American and Southwest - operate a total of 72 Max aircraft, a relatively small portion of their fleets, according to the Wall Street Journal.

"Garuda is reconsidering its upcoming order of 20 Boeing 737 MAXs after the two Boeing crashes", CEO Ari Askhara told reporters on Thursday, adding its only Boeing 737 MAX would stay grounded until "there's notification from the FAA". They have been in commercial use since 2017.
