"We have appealed to our 27 lakh consumers in the suburbs to switch off lights and fans during Earth Hour and support the cause for environmental friendliness", said an Adani Electricity official.

Earth Hour 2019 will be observed on Saturday (March 30) at 8:30 pm local time. "Together, they are participating in creating a new future that will change the world we live in, not just for our generation but for our children, their children and so on".

"Every day, but most especially today, we have to do our bit to mitigate our impact on our planet. Our ever-growing demand for food, water, and energy is changing the climate faster than predicted-and it comes at a cost for wildlife, wild places, and people everywhere", WWF writes on why Earth Hour matters.

This year's Earth Hour theme is #Connect2Earth.

The world's biggest landmarks - such as the Sydney Opera House, Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, Carnaby Street, Buckingham Palace, and Edinburgh Castle - switch off lights as a visual display of their commitment.

The Earth Hour campaign is celebrating its 12th year with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of biodiversity.

In addition to switching off the electric lights to mark the Earth Hour, there are several fun activities that can be organised to spend the hour.

What can I do during the Earth hour?

Millions of people in more than 7,000 cities in more than 170 countries are expected to take part this year, to send a message to leaders that protecting the Earth should be top of their agenda, WWF said. Additionally, the organisation points out that it will be a good time to check out the stars, giving the comparably less light pollution.
