Bernie Sanders: Government ‘Cannot Go Too Far’ in Addressing Climate Change

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) defended the Green New Deal during a Friday appearance on ABC's "The View", saying, "you can not go too far on the issue of climate change".

"Now in terms of the Green New deal [as conceived], that goes beyond what our charge is", Pelosi told Rolling Stone.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will not commit to holding a vote on the Green New Deal touted by progressive lawmakers, saying Congress needs something that is "evidence-based". Durbin said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe".

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's sweeping "Green New Deal" could end up costing close to $93 trillion, or about $600,000 per household, according to a new study released by a center-right advocacy group. "And even if you don't have kids, there are still children here in the world and we have a moral obligation to them to leave a better world to them"'.

The "Green New Deal", though, continues to draw a wide range of responses from Democrats.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told reporters yesterday the Senate would debate the measure "in all likelihood before the August break", apparently pushing the timeline back for a vote that many speculated would come in the next few weeks. "We anticipated that this resolution was not going to be able to pass the Senate in this political climate, so the idea is to take the next two years to make the Green New Deal a key issue in the 2020 election". We need politicians to recognize and actually speak on the fact that climate change, and this climate crisis that we're facing, is a real issue.

The resolution now has 11 Senate co-sponsors, including several presidential candidates, and 89 in the House - a huge chunk of the House Democratic caucus. "There's no other way to describe this idea to completely make over our transportation network", Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.) said during a hearing to examine the link between infrastructure and climate change February 26.

Asked about a possible vote on Feinstein's climate resolution, Durbin said he had yet to see it.

"I'm trying to draft another one, which might be more acceptable, but it's not done yet", Feinstein told E&E News last night. A polite legislative campaign for the Green New Deal isn't going to cut it - these people are literally making money from killing the planet and dooming humankind.

Democrats' Green New Deal manifesto aimed at revolutionizing the country's transportation system by drastically reducing fuel emissions was described as a fantasy by the top Republican transportation policymaker in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"The games they are playing here will have no meaning".
