The handwritten page, part of an appendix to a 1930 paper on the Nobel winner's efforts towards a unified field theory, was discovered among the 110-page trove the university's Albert Einstein archives received some two weeks ago.

Israel's Hebrew University said it has obtained a "magnificent" collection of Albert Einstein's manuscripts, including a personal letter in which he expressed shame for not knowing the Hebrew language.

"There is also one page with a concise explanation of the basic principle underlying the physics of the atom bomb and of nuclear reactors", the newspaper writes.

In the same letter from 1951, Einstein tells Besso that he has "still not come closer" to fully comprehending the nature of light particles after almost 50 years of research.

"This is a rare finding", Grosz said at an event during the unveiling at the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University.

· 4 letters from Einstein to his life-long friend and fellow scientist, Michele Besso.

"I believe that even in Germany things are slowly starting to change", he wrote. "Let's just hope we won't have a Europe war first".

The collection was donated by a foundation in the USA city of Chicago which purchased it from a private collector.

The new manuscripts were purchased from a private collector in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for Hebrew University's Albert Einstein Archives by the Crown-Goodman Family Foundation in Chicago.

Newly revealed Albert Einstein letters provide glimpse into his genius mind

The manuscripts, which have never been published or viewed by the public, offer new insight into the inner workings of Einstein's mathematical mind.

Einstein himself moved from Germany to the United States in 1933 after the rise of Adolf Hitler.

The published materials include 84 manuscript pages containing mathematical derivations written between 1944 and 1948.

"Whenever someone came to visit our home, we always showed them our "Einstein Wall" which was full of photos and letters from my grandmother's famous cousin".

Researchers are now preserving and digitizing the new documents, after which they will work to pick through the scientific and mathematical meanings for the calculations found within their margins. "Later, when I got married, instead of a Tiffany bowl or crystal vase, I asked my family for a gift that would be much more meaningful to me: a July 1949 letter that Einstein, along with my father and mother, wrote to Lina", Cortell Reisman shared.

Einstein's more human side can be seen in the personal letters.

The letter included a passage that Hebrew University researchers believe to be denouncing psychoanalysis founder Sigmund Freud as a fraud.

Following the preservation and digitization of these new documents, HU's Einstein Archives is now working with Caltech's Prof.
