The US envoy to the European Union reportedly said on Thursday that the US wants to steer people away from Huawei towards Western products because of concerns that Beijing could use Huawei's technology for spying, an allegation that Huawei has consistently denied.

Liu is attempting to bring an end to a tit-for-tat trade war that has been waged since July 2018, with the U.S. demanding that China opens its economy to foreign companies, reduce its trade deficit with the USA and that it treats foreign companies operating in China fairly.

"It will be a setback for China's rise if Huawei, a high-tech giant among Chinese private enterprises, collapses under USA pressure". Asked about security issues with Huawei's products, Sondland said: "There is a lot of evidence, most of it classified".

Overall, respondents were fairly split on the impact of the Canada-China trade relationship on the Canadian economy as a whole, with 35 per cent saying it has a positive impact and 33 per cent said it has a negative impact.

Brumby's canned quote in Huawei's press release said "The timing of my retirement from the board is completely unrelated to any recent commentary regarding China and Huawei".

However, the company - considered the jewel in the crown of China's tech industry - is being frozen out of bidding processes around the world for the roll-out of 5G technology, most notably among U.S. allies such as Australia and the United Kingdom. With the Trump Administration reportedly poised to issue an executive order effectively barring American companies from using Chinese-origin equipment in critical telecommunications networks, domestic service providers should keep a close eye on their supply chain security and potential liability when working with foreign entities.

The EU is considering proposals that would amount to a de-facto ban on Huawei kit for next-generation mobile networks, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

He said that he had originally notified Huawei in late 2017 that he meant to step down, but the company asked him to stay on for another year. They're anxious that Huawei could install back doors in a 5G network that could let the Chinese government, companies or hackers spy on information crossing that network.

"Huawei representatives informed the President about the current state of investment activities and plans for the future", spokesman Jiri Ovcacek said on Twitter.

When Canada arrested Meng, they didn't realize how connected Huawei was to the Chinese government.
