Spotify will now ban accounts using ad-blockers

Spotify will start suspending ad-blocking users without warning Spotify takes aim at ad blockers - GSMArena.com news

An eMarketer report a year ago said that a quarter of USA internet users, or about 70 million people, deploy ad blockers.

Thus, according to the new terms of service, the warnings may end; users lose their account immediately if Spotify suspects they are using an adblocker. Those that do push those boundaries will be met with an "immediate termination or suspension" of their Spotify account. If they upgraded to a premium account or removed their ad-blockers, their accounts would be restored.

Spotify already has multiple detection measures for identifying the use of ad blockers. The music service also reportedly estimated that 2 million users are using an ad-blocker or a modified app to avoid ads, which is about 2 percent of its ad-supported monthly users. Needless to say, if you use an ad blocker or any other third-party software to circumvent ads, but don't want to get suspended or banned from Spotify, be sure to turn it off or whitelist the site before March 1st.

The disabling of Spotify accounts on the usage of ad blockers is not applicable to the premium Spotify accounts and only for the free users as Spotify doesn't display ads for the paid users.

The new Terms of Service kick off March 1 giving Spotify the authority to terminate accounts without warning.

Spotify users should check their emails for new terms of service agreement from Spotify.

Spotify also announced this week that it was making significant headway on its podcasting ambitions by acquiring Anchor and Gimlet Media, the latter of which includes podcasts such as Reply All and Crimetown.
