Major League Baseball has proposed that a team not be allowed to bring in a reliever until the previous pitcher has faced three batters or an inning ends. What has been known as the "disabled list" for more than five decades, will from now on be referred to as the "injured list".

Major League Baseball is drawing a line between an injury and a disability with its decision to change the name of the "disabled list".

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the most historic professional sports league in the United States and consists of 30 member clubs in the USA and Canada, representing the highest level of professional baseball. Mixing, or making similar the terms "disabled" and "injury" could infer an inability to participate in sports.

The disabled list first became an official part of baseball terminology in 1966.

"Usually when we confront businesses or any other big organization, we get pushback". "In recent years, the commissioner has received several inquiries regarding the name of the "Disabled List, '" Pfeifer wrote".

Despite the name change, the rules of the DL will remain the same, the report said. The distinction given from now on is the "injured list". Major League Baseball has proposed to the players' association that the 10-day list go back to a 15-day minimum, its level before 2017.

The expansion of rosters to 26 men with a 12-pitcher maximum. Rosters held only 21 players, which, when injuries mounted, forced some players back into action before they were fully healthy.

Among the proposals to be considered, per multiple reports, are a universal designated hitter - now only American League teams employ a DH, with National League teams adapting to that lineup configuration when visiting an AL ballpark - a 20-second pitch clock and expanding rosters to 26.

The reasoning makes a lot of sense, especially when you consider that the other major sports don't call their injury lists "disabled lists". Eventually the 15-day limit was dropped to 10, the 21-day list was eliminated and the 30-day limit was expanded to 60 days.
