When the University of North Carolina at Greensboro student investigated what was making noises, she discovered a 30-year-old man in her closet, according to WFMY.

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Burkely Communities did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for comment.

"Since I've been living here, I've been having like pieces of clothes missing".

"Since I've been living here, I've had pieces of clothes missing like shirts and trousers", Maddie said. She told WGHP she is scared for her safety and declined to show her face on camera. "He goes in the bathroom and looks in the mirror and then said 'you're really pretty, can I give you a hug?" she recalls. Frankly, a ghost would've been less scary than what she did find on Saturday afternoon.

Maddie, a student, said she could hear "rattling in my closet and I thought it was a raccoon" late last month, news.com.au reports.

The North Carolina University student, known only as Maddie, told local television station WHNT19 she was growing increasingly concerned in recent days after unusual things started happening in her off-campus apartment. "I'm like, who's there?" He's like 'Oh my name is Drew, ' " Maddie, who is identified in news reports by her first name only, told local outlet Fox8.

"He was in there wearing all of my clothes, my socks, my shoes", she said. "And he has a book bag full of my clothes", Maggie explained.

Swofford has since been arrested and appeared in court on Monday, Feb. 4, via video conference from the Guilford County Jail.

Maddie told Fox 8 she is now so afraid of being in her own home that she has been sleeping in her roommate's bed.

'He tries on my hat.

Maddie said she called the police and then talked to Swofford to keep him distracted while waiting for authorities to arrive. "But he never touched me".

The big question the women are trying to get answered is how he got inside.

Glenn said the student called her boyfriend to the apartment and asked the man to leave, adding the man was non-confrontational.

Maddie and her roommates, who have encountered strangers in their living room before, are now looking to move out.

That was December 19th. WGHP was told that was standard protocol.

Police told the Greensboro News & Record that the student made the discovery when she came home on a lunch break from school.

"Last night I did not feel safe".

'I can't stay here.
