Battling PM "determined" Britain to quit European Union on time

Maas: Exit from Brexit 'extremely unlikely' Theresa May says she is 'determined' for Britain to leave the EU on time despite being sent back to Brussels to renegotiate her Brexit deal

On Wednesday will vote on EU-great-grandson, Donald Tusk, with the Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas tells the Funke newspaper group published Sunday that "we need clear proposals from London" and rejected a suggestion that the EU's position is increasing the risk of a no-deal Brexit.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May has said she is "determined" to agree on "a pragmatic solution that delivers Brexit" when she returns to Brussels for further negotiations on February 13.

The British EU exit for the 29.

In Tuesday's House of Commons vote, a narrow majority of MPs backed May's plan to renegotiate the so-called "backstop" - the part of the withdrawal agreement that guarantees an open Irish border after Brexit.

Japanese carmaker Nissan canceled plans to build its new X-Trail SUV in Britain, saying while it had taken the decision for business reasons the continued uncertainty around Britain's future European Union ties was "not helping companies like ours to plan for the future".

"The objective of the backstop is simple - to ensure the protection of the Good Friday agreement, the single biggest achievement we share with successive British governments". "It is in all our interests to get to that agreement and for the European Union to say we are not going to even discuss it seems to me to be quite irresponsible".

But May wrote in the Sunday Telegraph that she would be "battling for Britain and Northern Ireland" in her efforts to get rid of the agreement's unpopular backstop provision.

The move, first reported on Saturday by Sky News, was confirmed by the company in a letter to workers Sunday.

May said she was "determined" to deliver Brexit on March 29, but Fox echoed comments by Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt on Thursday that a delay to that leaving date may be needed in order to get legislation through parliament.

May's office denied a report in the Mail on Sunday newspaper that the prime minister's advisors were considering scheduling a national election for June 6.

"This represents a significant step towards delivering Brexit and fulfilling the instruction given to us by the British public".

But he added that Brussels was prepared to re-examine the deal to make it "more ambitious" in terms of its post-Brexit relations with the UK.

She said she would be "battling for Britain" to ensure that there was no hard border in Ireland.

On a visit to Stoke-on-Trent on Saturday, he said: "I don't think any MP will sell their votes in that way - that sort of bribery and corruption". "The only thing that is missing is a bit of goodwill on the European Union side".

Germany's Foreign Minister, Heiko Maas, said on Sunday that the idea of the United Kingdom avoiding Brexit was unlikely.
