Apple will remove screen recording apps if they don't own up

These Mobile Apps Could Be These Mobile Apps Could Be"Stalking Your Every iPhone MoveCC0

These apps have been found to literally record your iPhone screen, without asking for your permission or notifying you about it. None of the companies mention recording your screen in their privacy policies, the site noted. As a recent online report discovered several of the companies behind those apps may have been secretly recording your displays without your permission.

A new report by TechCrunch revealed that notable apps belonging to airlines, hoteliers, cell phone carriers, banking and finance apps, and other travel have been collecting much more sensitive data of their users via iPhones, or you can say iOS apps. These replays allow developers to see exactly what you do with their apps and understand what, if anything, went wrong during a session.

'.We firmly believe that our customers should have clear policies in place so that consumers are aware that their data is being recorded - just as contact centers inform users that their calls are being recorded, ' the company added. This technology essentially takes screenshots when you use their app and sends those back to the companies.

Once a user's session is recorded on the device, it is sent back to the app developer.

As TechCrunch notes, The App Analyst recently demonstrates that Air Canada wasn't properly "masking" session replays, exposing credit card details and passport numbers to people who replayed the session.

Now, most of these session recordings ought to mask sensitive and personal information.

App Analyst looked at several apps with Glassbox software built in for TechCrunch, and found that apps such as Air Canada might be sending private data, unencrypted.

According to the expert, not every app was leaking masked data.

Seeing this disturbing trend practised widely across the board, The App Analyst said: "I think users should take an active role in how they share their data, and the first step to this is having companies be forthright in sharing how they collect their users' data and who they share it with". These are effectively screen recordings extracted from users without their express consent. When you're using an app like Air Canada, Hollister, or Expedia, that app can monitor everything you tap and swipe in the app itself. This includes user information entered in, and collected on, the Air Canada mobile app.

Since the reports were published, an Air Canada spokesperson has told TechCrunch that it uses "customer provided information to ensure we can support their travel needs and to ensure we can resolve any issues that may affect their trips". The app then beams the reply back to the Glassbox servers. In addition, Glassbox said the data they capture is "highly secured, encrypted, and exclusively belongs to the customers" the company supports.
