"Rather than capitulate to extortion and blackmail", he wrote in a blog post on Medium, the executive published emails they sent proposing a "completely confidential" agreement.
Bezos hired a team of investigators to look into how, late previous year, the Enquirer obtained the raunchy text messages he exchanged with Lauren Sanchez while still married to his longtime wife.
Pecker was "apoplectic" about the investigation, Bezos wrote, and a few days later his team was approached, both verbally then digitally, with an offer: Make a public statement claiming that AMI's coverage wasn't politically motivated, or the Enquirer would post another round personal photos, this time of an intimate nature, Bezos wrote.
A spokesman and an attorney for AMI did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment.
On Thursday, Bezos noted that Pecker is cooperating with federal prosecutors who are investigating "catch-and-kill" payments the Enquirer made ahead of the 2016 presidential election to at least one woman who alleged she had an affair with Trump.
What it comes down to is that Bezos, who owns The Washington Post, has claimed their investigation was "politically motivated". Now that the world knows what the photos show and how they were brought to Bezos's attention, the Enquirer's decision to publish them would look that much sleazier.

The law defines extortion as, among other things, obtaining something of value through fear, and AMI's very explicit threat to publish the embarrassing pictures unless Bezos complies, fits that description, according to Elsea.
That admission was part of a deal between AMI and federal prosecutors, who agreed to not pursue charges against the company for secretly assisting Trump's campaign by paying $150,000 United States to a Playboy model for the rights to her story about an alleged affair with the then-candidate.
Instead of making a deal with AMI, Bezos chose to go public, writing: "If in my position I can't stand up to this kind of extortion, how many people can?" "I prefer to stand up, roll this log over, and see what crawls out". All it would take is for, er, Donald Trump's DOJ to ride to Jeff Bezos's rescue.
Dylan Howard's name, along with two National Enquirer reporters, appears on a story the magazine published on 9 January containing alleged details of Mr Bezos' affair with Ms Sanchez.
Other photos described in the email include half-dressed selfies of Bezos in a variety of situations, and photos of his new partner Lauren Sanchez that Howard described as "revealing her cleavage". They'd no longer be exclusively an embarrassment to Bezos, they'd be smoking-gun proof of the Enquirer's allegedly extortionate business practices.
