Jake Patterson, a 21-year-old Wisconsin man, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping, Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald told reporters at a news conference on Friday.

A suspect was arrested and taken into custody 11 minutes later, police said.

The news that Jayme was safe set off joy and relief in Barron, which has a population of 3300.

"My legs started to shake".

The sheriff said that he did not know whether Jayme had been physically abused.

Investigators say 21-year-old Jake Thomas Patterson shot James and Denise Closs to death in their home near Barron on October 15 and took their daughter, 13-year old Jayme Closs.

"It was literally like we were seeing a ghost, because we have seen the billboards and the commercials and all that stuff, and there she is in my kitchen, you know", Kasinskas told CBS News.

Teacher Kristin Kasinskas was at her home, in Gordon, Wisconsin, on Friday when a neighbour started frantically knocking on her door. "She did not talk about why or how".

Police say she had escaped on foot from a remote cabin.

"At this time, nothing in this case shows the suspect knew anyone at the Closs home or at any time had contact with anyone in the Closs family", Fitzgerald said. We believe he acted alone.

"It appears he concealed her from other people. his friends", Fitzgerald said.

Barron Mayor Ron Fladten said he hadn't heard any details about Jayme's discovery but was overjoyed at learning she is alive. Patterson is expected to make his initial court appearance on the charges on Monday. James Kuffel, the township's lone constable, said he knows nearly everyone in the area but has never encountered the Pattersons. They said there is nothing to indicate that he knew or had contact with the family before the incident, and said they do not know how he came to fixate on Jayme.

Sheriff Fitzgerald stated that Patterson had shaved his head to avoid leaving any trace evidence at the scene at the Closs residence.

Investigators are trying to determine how Jayme escaped from Patterson's home, Fitzgerald said.

Ownership of that rural cabin was transferred to a credit union by Patterson's father shortly after Jayme was kidnapped.

Police always said they believed Jayme was still alive. Patterson quit, saying he was moving from the area, Lykken said.

He may have worked at another business in Barron but that hasn't been confirmed, the sheriff said.

He graduated from high school in Minong, about 10 miles south of Gordon, in 2015 and participated on the quiz bowl team.

"I have no clue who they are", she said. "I don't recall anything that would have explained this, by any means". "I just wanted to scream very loudly". I don't know where I am! "I'm lost", Ms Nutter, a social worker, told the Associated Press.

Nutter took her to the home of Peter and Kristin Kasinskas.

Jayme told one of the neighbors in Gordon who took her in that she had walked away from a cabin where she had been held captive.

"There is a reunification process in place going on right now that includes medical mental evaluation, questioning by detectives and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, and then reunification with family", he said. "God has answered those prayers".

On Thursday evening, the sheriff's department announced that Jayme had been located after she managed to escape her alleged abductor almost 90 days after she went missing.
