Winter Storm Gia forecast: Monster snowstorm to span half the US

Winter Weather Advisory Begins At Noon Today In Effect Until 7 am Sunday | Newsradio 1020 KDKA More snow to fall Friday night

The advisory is in effect until 3 a.m. Sunday and covers northern IL and Northwest Indiana including Lee, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage and Cook counties.

A Winter Storm WARNING for Snow means severe winter weather will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

Scattered light snow showers will be possible from time to time Saturday ahead of the main storm.

A number of schools and organizations have announced closures due to expected snowfall in the Kansas City area over the next 24 hours.

Snow should start falling in the Delaware Valley around 8 p.m.to 10 p.m, .Saturday.

The snow should begin to taper off early Sunday morning, leaving behind a coating to an inch for most of Philadelphia.

As for snowfall accumulations, a general three to six inches is expected.

St. Louis, in particular, could see the biggest snowfall in five years, NWS meteorologist Kevin Deitsch told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, as the city prepares for up to 9 inches.

Slick spots on the roads will remain a concern tonight through early tomorrow morning. This would be mainly near I-64 and that snow that falls will have to overcome wet roads to stick.

A system will bring accumulating snow and ice to the region.

Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are only likely to see about 1 to 3 inches of snow.
