In response to this news, Musk's lawyer Dean Kristy made some remarks discrediting Azealia Banks for her antics on social media, calling her a "veteran of long and nonsensical beefs" and a "Twitter villain" who has been banned from the platform for her inflammatory statements.

Concerns about the shrinking US tax credit and Tesla's decision to cut prices by $2,000 to partially offset the lower incentive sent the carmaker's shares plunging 9.7% during the first two trading days of the year. It said it was churning out nearly 1,000 Model 3s daily, broadly in line with Musk's promises but slightly short of Wall Street expectations. In a tweet the company said: "Model 3 configurator is now open to left-hand drive countries in Europe".

While the previous price of the Tesla Model 3 (pictured) with a medium-range battery was $46,000, it becomes $44,000 now.

The lower price comes as automakers expect US new vehicle sales to weaken in 2019, and amid increased competition from new electric vehicle entrants.

In the USA, the tax credit for electric vehicles will be cut by half every six months until it is gone completely for companies that have sold at least 200,000 cars.

Under a major tax overhaul passed by the Republican-controlled U.S. Congress in 2017, tax credits that lower the cost of electric vehicles are available for the first 200,000 such vehicles sold by an automaker.

More news: Strong December hiring unlikely to change Fed's policy stance

Therefore, Tesla chose to partially compensate the federal tax credit reduction by means of lowering prices for its models.

But some said fears of eroded demand were overblown.

Tesla had predicted it would enjoy an upturn in sales towards the end of the 2018 as customers looked to get in before the government grant disappeared, but it was those strong predictions that ultimately led to disappointment and a share price slump. If Tesla had a demand issue, therefore, the company would have cut its prices by more than 3 percent, he wrote in a note. Tesla planning to build cars in Europe and China The company has already signed an agreement just last summer to build its third Gigafactory ibn China just outside Shanghai. GM declined to comment.

The price of the vehicle varies from one European country to another.

Tesla announced it delivered 90,700 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2018, weaker than market expectations. This timing is in line with what Tesla has been targeting for months, the person said. The Americans could save $7,500 when buying electric cars before.

"Tesla disappointed the market. The deliveries are below our estimates and the consensus estimates", Frank Schwope, an analyst with NORD/LB is quoted my Reuters.
