Star Trek 4 Shelved Permanently?

Future of STAR TREK Film Series In Doubt As Director S.J. Clarkson Departs Star Trek 4 Shelved Indefinitely At Paramount

So it would appear that Star Trek 4 is history.

The Hollywood trade reports that the untitled film which would have been the fourth in the franchise which began with 2009's J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek has been "shelved". Clarkson was announced today as the pilot director and an executive producer on HBO's upcoming Game Of Thrones spin-off, which will be set some 5,000 years prior to the mainline series.

Talk of a Quentin Tarantino-penned movie had been floated, but then reported contract negotiations between Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth, who'd played Kirk's father in the 2009 film, were said to have collapsed in August a year ago. The news comes from Deadline, who report that Clarkson has moved on to helm the Game of Thrones prequel series since she now has an opening in her schedule, given that Star Trek 4 isn't happening anymore.

I hear Clarkson was recruited by HBO for GOT after she recently became available. That project has since been shelved.

Paramount originally meant to shoot the fourth movie in the rebooted NuTrek universe early this year, although it had been in doubt for the past few months after Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth rejected offers to return as Captain James T. Kirk and his father George Kirk.

If this is truly the end for the "Star Trek" movie franchise, at least fans still have season two of "Star Trek: Discovery" to enjoy on CBS All Access.

Simon Pegg said in a July interview with The Edmonton Journal that Tarantino's Star Trek movie is "five or six years" away from happening, since Tarantino is now making Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is slated for release on July 26, 2019.
