It was a heartbreaking moment for United Kingdom businessman, Richard Mason, when he discovered he has been infertile since birth due to suffering from cystic fibrosis and more shocking, not the father of the three boys he raised as his own since 1995, with his wife of 20 years, Kate. He also went about suing her for paternity fraud, leading to two of the boys breaking off contact with him.

His ex-wife only confessed 10 years after they divorced and he had already been ordered to pay a huge divorce settlement to raise the children.

Businessman Richard Mason was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis in 2016.

Mr Mason immediately began legal action against his wife to get back money from their divorce settlement.

This led to DNA and other tests which confirmed he has no biological link to the eldest son, now 23, and the 19-year-old twins, who he'd helped to raise with ex-wife Kate, 54.

He told The Mail on Sunday: 'You don't know what's real and what isn't - it's as if I'm living in The Matrix.

Mum pays ex-husband £250,000 after he discovered three sons weren't actually his

'Someone says to you "all that you know and everything you thought to be solid and true is not real. You are not a father, you are not able to have kids, your name will not continue".

Mr Mason added: 'I still see what the boys are doing on Facebook and its heart-wrenching. She said they had sex on six to 12 occasions but insisted the man couldn't be the father as they always used a condom.

After making the startling discovery, the man sent frantic texts to his ex-wife, begging for "advice" as to how they tell the boys after being told it was 98 per cent certain he couldn't have fathered a single child, let alone three. However, the bitter dispute has nearly destroyed his relationship with the boys.

The case was settled out of court at the end of November in an outcome believed to be the first of its kind. The report further stated that he has now accepted 250,000 euros (above Rs. 1.9 crores) following an extraordinary case that has allowed her to keep the identity of the birth father a secret.

But the consultant told Mr Mason that the only father with cystic fibrosis he had ever known later discovered he had been duped by his cheating partner.
