Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump are among possible US candidates to replace outgoing World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, The Financial Times reported Friday.

The President of the World Bank is ex officio chair of the Board of the Executive Directors of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA).

In addition to Trump and Haley, who stepped down as US ambassador to the United Nations last month, other names being floated include treasury undersecretary for global affairs David Malpass and Mark Green, head of the US Agency for worldwide Development, the newspaper reported.

The Treasury Department declined to comment on potential candidates.

What is the US Government Shutdown and what does it mean for the country?

The department has received a 'significant number of recommendations, ' a spokesperson said.

You know things are especially and deeply batshit when Ivanka Trump is the second-most ludicrous name on a list to head The World Bank.

"We are beginning the internal review process for an American nominee, and we look forward to working with the governors to elect a new leader", he said.

Through an unwritten post-war agreement with Europe, the institution has always been led by an American while a European has always been at the helm of the International Monetary Fund.

But the success of a United States candidate no longer appears completely assured.

In a statement, the World Bank's directors said they were committed to an "open, merit-based and transparent selection process", a phrase that has become a rallying cry for opponents of American hegemony of the presidency, who say that an open process would consider non-Americans, too.

Trump's Administration has been opposed to globalist institutions such as the World Bank, but will now been tasked with suggesting someone for the role.
