Another Democrat is jumping into the quickly forming 2020 Democratic presidential primary contest.

Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii has announced that she is running for president in 2020.

"There are a lot of reasons for me to make this decision. There are a lot of challenges that are facing the American people that I'm concerned about and that I want to help solve", Gabbard added.

Republican National Committee spokesman Michael Ahrens dismissed Gabbard's White House announcement, saying that the Hawaii Democrat has no voter base. She was a major in the Hawaii Army National Guard and served two tours of duty in the Middle East.

A veteran of the Iraq war, she recently made stops in both Iowa and New Hampshire - vital early voting states - and looked into hiring digital staff and speechwriters. Bernie Sanders' (I-Vt.) 2016 campaign as her campaign manager, CNN reports.

Gabbard was one of the most prominent lawmakers to back Sanders over Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary. Her endorsement came in dramatic fashion, with her resigning as a vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee to express her support.

Gabbard's spat with Hirono is just the latest incidence of her alienation from establishment Democrats. She said she sat down with Assad in an attempt to end the civil war in Syria. She's opposed to military intervention, and drew criticism in 2017 for meeting during a secret trip with Syrian President Bashar Assad whose oppressive regime has allegedly used chemical weapons on its own people.

She made waves recently for saying in a tweet that President Trump is "Saudi Arabia's bitch" for announcing the USA will stand with Saudi Arabia, regardless of any intelligence community assessment on Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's involvement in the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. She was deployed a second time, to Kuwait, in 2008.

Julian Castro, a former mayor of San Antonio who served in Barack Obama's cabinet as housing secretary, says he will announce his 2020 plans on Saturday.

US Senator Elizabeth Warren of MA on December 31 announced she had formed an exploratory committee for a White House run in what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary field before the November 2020 presidential election. Cory Booker and Vermont Sen.

The Democratic presidential field could eventually include Senators Kamala Harris, Cory Booker and Kirsten Gillibrand, as well as former Vice President Joe Biden.
