Craig McLachlan, the former Neighbours star, has been charged with multiple counts of indecent assault, believed to be connected to his role in an Australian stage production of The Rocky Horror Show.

Police in Victoria state on Friday said a 53-year-old man, identified by news media as McLachlan, has been summoned to appear in court over the nine charges, and another charge of attempted indecent assault.

The actor, who had prominent roles in soaps Neighbours and Home And Away, is due to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 8 February, according to Sky News Australia.

It is not now clear exactly what alleged incidents these charges are related to.

Whelan Browne said that while performing a sex scene with McLachlan he inappropriately touched her while on stage. There was a bed sheet so that the audience could not see what was happening.

He was accused a year ago when fellow Rocky Horror star Christie Whelan-Browne, who played the character of Janet, made allegations of sexual misconduct.

McLachlan has repeatedly denied the claims.

McLachlan is seeking $6.5 million in special damages, and his defamation hearing is set down for four weeks from February 4.
