Nicolas Derely wrote in a Facebook post that he was with his family skiing on January 2 when his son's friend injured his knee.

A dramatic helicopter rescue of an injured skier trapped at 2,000 feet on the French Alps has been captured in epic footage that looks like a scene straight from an action movie.

The man, named as Bruno, had become exhausted and suffered an agonising fall.

As members of his party watched on, a helicopter from the Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne (French Mountain Police) delicately nudged its nose towards the steep slope. The pilot managed to hold the vehicle in place so that the right-hand landing skid remained in contact with the mountainside. He wrote that he was thankful he had enough cell service to call emergency personnel, which set out to rescue the skier from the Pass of Anterne in Passy, France.

The medics fitted a leg brace on to Bruno before the helicopter returned to perform the daring procedure again. It shows the helicopter approaching from a different angle before it hovers close to the mountainside to allow the rescue workers to jump out of the helicopter with their equipment.
