Mohammed Siraj will join the Indian squad as the replacement for Bumrah. He bowled more overs (157.1) than any other fast bowler in the series, finishing the series as the top wicket-taker.

The decision was taken after considering the work load of the bowler as revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Virat Kohli became the first Asian captain to beat Australia in their own country as India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1.
