Anupam Kher's The Accidental Prime Minister is facing tough competition from Vicky Kaushal's military drama Uri: The Surgical Strike and Ranveer Singh's action-cop-drama Simmba. Congress workers protested and raised slogans at Inox cinema hall at the Quest Mall in Kolkata on Friday over the same issue.

He also wrote that he is with the team in spirits and asked them to aggressively promote the project.

On January 11, activists of the Congress' youth wing had staged protests against the movie outside an auditorium of a multiplex chain on Ganesh Chandra Avenue and tore the film posters.

State Congress leaders dissociated themselves from the protests, with West Bengal Culture Minister Indranil Sen clarifying that the state government had not given any instructions to stop the screening. While the acting of Anuman Kher as Former PM Manmohan Singh and Akshaye Khanna's performance as Sanjaya Baru has been praised, the question of whether the film is a propaganda film still looms large.

The movie's screening was stopped, though its 2 pm show on the first day had passed off smoothly, Chokhani said. "We will not allow the film to be screened anywhere", said Congress leader Rakesh Singh, who led the agitators. We reached out to him but received no response. TMC chief also came up with a new name for the dramatic film for the for the upcoming national election - "The Disastrous Prime Minister". Not only TAPM is a propaganda film but a shoddy one with actors looking caricaturish, incoherent screenplay and poor execution of a story that had potential.
