Nissan to recall 150000 cars in Japan due to improper checks

Carlos Ghosn, former chairman of Nissan Motor, will be indicted Monday by Tokyo prosecutors amid ongoing investigations into alleged underreporting of salaries by former Chairman Carlos Ghosn, Nikkei reported Friday. It was reported that several employees admitted to the regulators that they had not been following protocol in tests.

Nissan plans to notify authorities of the recall on Thursday, it added.

Nissan has announced that it will recall an additional 150,000 vehicles in Japan due to improper testing being carried out during final inspections. The auto manufacturer was forced to recall more than 1 million vehicles past year after it admitted that staff who were not qualified had conducted final tests on some vehicles before they were shipped to dealers in Japan.

In a separate case that erupted in July, Nissan admitted data on exhaust emissions and fuel economy had been deliberately "altered", hampering its efforts to recover trust after the inspection scandal.

Ghosn was arrested for allegedly conspiring to understate his income by about half of the actual 10 billion yen ($88.66 million) over five years from 2010.

Prosecutors in Tokyo are to bring criminal charges against Carlos Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan, according to Japanese media.

Ghosn and Kelly's detention period runs until Monday, when prosecutors must decide to indict, release, or rearrest them on new claims.

The Nikkei said the two former executives and Nissan would likely be indicted over the alleged under reporting of salaries in five annual reports through the business year that ended in March 2015.

Nissan has begun the process of choosing Ghosn's successor, with the final decision expected on December 17.
