Images Reportedly Show Expansion of NK Missile Base

The South Korean government, which dismissed previous United States media reports about North Korea's undeclared missile bases as "nothing new", said the Yeongjeo-dong missile base has always been on the surveillance list of the South Korean and USA militaries.

In a statement the Pentagon said: "We watch North Korea very closely but we can not discuss intelligence".

Experts told CNN that the facility, which has always been familiar to the USA, is a suitable location to receive the North's newest long-range missiles, . including those than can carry nuclear warheads to the US mainland.

The revelation is yet another blow to President Donald Trump, who after first trying to face down North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and belittle him as a "Little Rocket Man" who would be met with "fire and fury", then sought to prove his dealmaking prowess by getting Kim to agree to denuclearization.

The Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey told CNN that the images indicate that North Korea was building an extremely large underground facility in 2017 and that this facility was still under construction as of August 2018.

Vipin Narang, a politics professor at MIT, tweeted: "North Korea isn't disarming".

In recent months, North Korea has announced the testing of an unspecified "newly developed ultra-modern weapon" and reports have repeatedly revealed it is continuing to develop its nuclear and missiles programmes. He just doesn't care.

It hasn't. And experts were warning Trump all along that it wouldn't, because Kim sees nuclear weapons as an essential tactic for his own survival.

But the North has rejected demands for what it calls "unilateral" disarmament, and has instead sought unspecified reciprocal U.S. measures in a gradual process.

"That's why I think the president thinks that another summit is likely to be productive", added President Trump's National Security Advisor John Bolton.

"This move defies any negotiating logic".
