Carrasco gets $47 million, 4-year deal from Indians

Carrasco gets $47 million 4-year deal from Indians Indians sign right-hander Carlos Carrasco to extension through 2022 season

The Cleveland Indians on Thursday announced the team has signed Carlos Carrasco to a four-year contract through the 2022 season with a club option for 2023.

Carrasco is more affordable than Kluber, though the former Cy Young Award victor is still under contract with what many would consider a team-friendly deal.

The Indians already had exercised their $9.75 million option for 2019 on October 30.

Even with the new contract, Carrasco remains one of the biggest bargains in baseball following another excellent season for the Tribe. Last season he went 17-10 with a 3.38 ERA and 231 strikeouts in 192 innings, completing his fourth year in a row of double-digit wins and a sub-3.70 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians have been in talks with multiple teams about their top-three starting pitchers. On that subject, Corey Kluber could now be moved, as well as Trevor Bauer.

Carrasco missed all of 2012 following elbow reconstruction surgery. Try to get that hitter out.

"That mentality helped flip the switch in Carlos' mind to keep him aggressive".

The 31-year-old has been a mainstay in Cleveland's rotation since 2011, and has flourished into one of the most reliable pitchers in the league since his breakout 2015 campaign.

Bauer is also coming off an outstanding season in which he went 12-6 with a 2.21 ERA in 28 starts.

"He has evolved to the point where his routine, the way he conditions, the way he takes care of himself, are extraordinary", Antonetti said. "If it were not for some freak injuries, he likely would have eclipsed that mark each of the last four seasons".
