The Tarok Concept can support a payload capacity of almost a ton.
Volkswagen has taken the wraps off its new Tarok concept at the São Paulo International Motor Show, with the show vehicle previewing a fresh-faced baby double-cab bakkie set to be positioned just below the Amarok.
The Tarok concept features a dual-cab body with seating for five people, a panoramic glass roof, and LED lights visually connecting the grille and headlight units. Essentially, the bed can be extended thanks to the folding rear panel that connects it with the five-seat double cab. As with the technical layout, the Tarok Concept has been designed from scratch down to the very last millimetre.
José Carlos Pavone, Head of Design Volkswagen do Brasil, revealed the pick-up concept. Bischoff continues: "The Tarok's DNA adds an exhilarating dynamic to the segment".
One of Tarok's cleverest design features is the adaptability of its loadbin area, which can be stretched from 1.2- to 1.8m in length.
The floor space can be extended by opening the tailgate or using the brand new mechanism that allows the bottom of the passenger cab rear panel to be folded down, meaning drivers can also use the back seat in the cab to transport extra-long items. In fact, when the production version of Tarok does go on sale, an event VW has confirmed will be the case by soon in South America, its marketing placement would certainly be as a junior Amarok.
Inside, the Tarok has a customisable digital instrumentation screen, a high-resolution infotainment system, and colour-coded dashboard and door trim accents. The TSI engine in the Tarok Concept is also combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
Don't expect low-range gearing or a lockable rear-axle on the production version, but do expect additional engines, with VW's engineers confirming that Tarok will also offer a 2-litre turbodiesel, boosting 110kW.
