She included a video with a C-Span logo that showed, repeatedly in slow motion, Acosta's left hand coming in contact with the unnamed intern's left arm.

Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders claims he put his hands on a young intern as he tried to prevent her from taking back the microphone, an assertion Acosta calls a "lie".

During the press conference, Trump dodged a question from Acosta when a White House intern walked up to take his microphone away.

Sanders "provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened", the United States cable network said. This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better.

Donald Tump appeared infuriated yesterday after being quizzed by CNN reporter Jim Acosta, who has since seen a temporary ban from the White House.

Acosta would theoretically be able to apply for a day pass to continue doing his job, but the process is slow and impractical for any journalist who needs to move freely in and out of the White House.

The official Twitter account posted a statement which read: "This President's ongoing attacks on the press have gone too far".

Acosta said before Trump interrupted him.

Miller reacted angrily, calling it "one of the most outrageous, insulting, ignorant and foolish thing you have ever said". The CNN correspondent asked whether Trump was demonising migrants and disputed his claim that the caravan amounted to an "invasion".

"You should let me run the country", Mr Trump said.

"If you did it well your ratings would be much better". That means, come January, the gavels for key congressional committees will pass from Republican legislators to Democrats, who are certain in a target-rich environment to issue subpoenas and hold hearings on matters ranging from alleged collusion between Russian Federation and Trump's 2016 election campaign to questionable spending on travel by members of the president's Cabinet. Those were reporters working with CNN, NBC, other networks.

Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced the decision hours after the news network's Jim Acosta sparred with Trump during a raucous to-and-fro. "Distract, make Jim Acosta the story and you don't have to talk about global warming, taxes for rich people", she added. "You shouldn't treat people that way".

Mason, a Reuters correspondent, also came forward in defence of his CNN colleague. "I've travelled with him and watched him", Mr Alexander said. "He's a diligent reporter who busts his butt like the rest of us".

The video was first shared by a contributor to the Infowars website know for promoting conspiracy theories, reports said.

Invoking the words of a fellow writer, Rowling cited George Orwell's 1984 to denounce the White House's actions.

"Just sit down", Mr Trump said. "You should not be working for CNN".

Craig Aaron of the activist group Free Press called Trump's actions "a direct and unsafe attack on the public's rights to hold their leaders accountable" and called for "a unified stand" by the press corps.

"They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN said through its Twitter feed.

She added, "President Trump has given the press more access than any President in history".

Various press organizations have chose to chime on the Trump administration's decision to revoke Jim Acosta's hard press pass on Wednesday night.

"We will not tolerate the inappropriate behaviour clearly documented in this video", Sanders said, posting a video of the CNN reporter allegedly placing his hand on a young woman.

The White House Correspondents' Association declined immediate comment.

She said that "on the campaign trail, you called yourself a nationalist. What do you say to that?"

"Not you, not you", Trump said, trying to stop the man from speaking.
