That's what you get with Les Miles, the singing, dancing, grass-eating, hat-wearing, fourth-down-gambling geyser of coaching personality hired to lead the Jayhawks program.

KU did not bring in Les Miles to rebuild its football program. The reasons leading to Miles' dismissal create doubt about his ability to succeed at one of the toughest Power 5 jobs. KU hired Les Miles to build a football program. Miles will receive a five-year contract that will pay him $2,775,000 annually, with additional retention bonuses due in November 2020 and November 2022. But the longtime college and pro assistant thrived in his first head job, finding some overlooked prospects, developing them and eventually reaching three straight bowl games.

Other incentives include $100,000 for a Big 12 Championship game berth or appearance in a New Year's Six bowl game. If the Jayhawks make the College Football Playoff, the incentive rises to $350,000. Finally, a national title appearance would net Miles $1,000,000.

The deal was finalized shortly before Miles arrived at the airport in nearby Topeka on Sunday morning, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press.

The Tigers won 10 or more games seven times under him, taking home seven bowl wins as well.

Miles will inherit a program that has not had a winning season since 2008 nor won more than three games since 2009. He also did a stint as head coach in the Big 12, rebuilding Oklahoma State and going 28-21 from 2001-04 in Stillwater.
