Celtics’ Gordon Hayward no longer has a firm minutes restriction

The Boston Celtics feature a fairly young roster, and their youth has been highlighted to start the 2018-19 National Basketball Association season. The Celtics have offset a four-game winning streak by dropping four of their last five in a brutal road trip. Hayward is being eased back into the fold, but he did break 30 minutes for the first time this season in a loss to the Blazers on Sunday night.

Gordon Hayward's season has been a bumpy ride, as expected for someone just one year removed from suffering a fractured tibia and dislocated ankle. "I said it before the season, it's whatever to me", he told Bleacher Report.

His field-goal percentage is lower than it has ever been, and his mark of 31.9 percent from behind the arc isn't desirable either.

Gordon Hayward recently said he would have no problem if Brad Stevens wanted to bring him off the bench. You go through slumps.

But Hayward's rust is very evident, as he is averaging just 9.9 points per game and shooting less than 40 percent.

That's not only because it would give the Celtics a chance to play with a five-man unit that is consistently on the floor but because it'll make the Boston's starting lineup more effective in theory. The shot feels good in practice and looks good and for whatever reason in the game, they're in and out.

Through whatever frustration he's experiencing, though, it's a good sign that he's willing to take a backseat to help the team succeed. The Celtics became the default favorites to win the Eastern Conference once LeBron James departed for Los Angeles, but just haven't looked up to snuff. But Boston does need to figure out what to do with Hayward. They are 7-6 overall and look like they don't belong anywhere near the NBA Finals, something that many people had them penciled in for before the season tipped off.
